Does innate spellcasting (as opposed to just the Spellcasting feature) count? Does racial psionic spellcasting (such as those of the gith) count? Does a reaper of bhaal's passive aura of murder count? Does a Hobgoblin Captain's Leadership ability count? Does a Tabaxi Minstrel's Inspire ability count?Ĩ. If a form that a couatl takes has an ability with an X/Day restriction or a recharge roll restriction, can a couatl bypass that recharge period by just turning into another member of that same species? What if it instead takes the form of a different type of creature of that same species (like, say, a Y mage instead of an ordinary Y warrior)?ħ. Can a couatl repeatedly make nonlethal attacks with its bite against a 0 HP creature without harming it until it fails its save against the couatl's poison? In my headcanon, it'd basically just be chomping onto the creature's arm and injecting a constant stream of divine poison until it succumbs.Ħ. If a couatl is in the form of a were-creature and it uses the bite attack of its natural (couatl) form, will that bite force a save vs. If a couatl is in a form with an ability that's dependent on a non-STR, non-DEX stat (such as a CON-based breath attack or the like), does that ability get modified to reflect the couatl's relevant stat modifier?Ĥ. If a couatl is in a form that has a Multiattack action that includes a bite attack, can the couatl use its bite instead of the form's bite in that multiattack? What if an ability like Rampage specifies needing to make a bite attack?ģ. Does a couatl's (DEX-based) bite's to-hit bonus and damage change based on its new form's DEX stat (and proficiency bonus?), or will it always have a +8 to-hit bonus and a damage of 1d8+5 (without buffs or the like to modify those values)?Ģ. ![]() If the new form has a bite attack, the couatl can use its bite in that form.ġ. In a new form, the couatl retains its game statistics and ability to speak, but its AC, movement modes, Strength, Dexterity, and other actions are replaced by those of the new form, and it gains any statistics and capabilities (except class features, legendary actions, and lair actions) that the new form has but that it lacks. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying is absorbed or borne by the new form (the couatl's choice). The couatl magically polymorphs into a humanoid or beast that has a challenge rating equal to or less than its own, or back into its true form. When you cast this spell using a 9th-level spell slot, you summon a celestial of challenge rating 5 or lower.Change Shape. ![]() If you don’t issue any commands to the celestial, it defends itself from hostile creatures but otherwise takes no actions It obeys any verbal commands that you issue to it (no action required by you), as long as they don’t violate its alignment. The celestial disappears when it drops to 0 hit points or when the spell ends.
